How it works
First understand, then practise, then take the exam. That is the order in which you learn fastest, whether you are working towards a driving licence in the Netherlands or a boating licence.
1. Read the lessons
Each programme has chapters with short lessons. Each lesson has a summary underneath, so you can revise what you have just read.
2. Practise in three modes
Start with Practise: an explanation after every question. Then Train: you get the explanation at the end and see how fast you work. Finish with Exam: the same set-up as the real exam, with your result at the end.
3. Work on your weak points
Under Progress you see how well you score in each chapter. The learning coach points out the chapters you still need to repeat.
4. Book your CBR exam
Once you have passed two different practice exams, the coach advises you to book your exam. You book and take the exam itself with the CBR.
5. How is "exam ready" calculated?
The figure at the top of your dashboard is an indication: not a probability of passing and not a guarantee that you will pass. This is how it comes about:
We take your last 5 finished attempts for this programme, in any mode (practise, train and exam; the free exam counts). Sets of only your mistakes do not count, because you have just seen the answers there.
For each attempt we take the share of correct answers on the questions that count (trial questions do not) and weigh it: practise counts 0.8, train 0.9 and exam 1.
We average those and divide by the exam's pass mark, expressed as a share of the number of questions (44 out of 50 questions is 88%). We never show more than the maximum. If you have not made an attempt yet, it shows 0%.
Example for car: five exams with 44 out of 50 right each give the maximum. Five practice sets with 44 out of 50 right each give 80%, because practising weighs less.
The coach also looks at your results per mode. It advises training after three practice sets averaging at least 75% right, an exam after three training sets averaging at least 85% right at the exam's pace, and booking your CBR exam once you have passed two different practice exams.
Your exam date does not change the figure. The date only gives the number of days you have left and a daily goal: the questions you have not mastered yet (not seen yet, or your last answer was wrong), spread over the days until your exam and rounded up.
It remains a calculated indication of your own results. The real CBR exam can turn out differently, with different questions, nerves and a good or bad day. We give no percentage for your chance of passing.
Frequently asked questions
How much time should I set aside?
That depends on the person. Plan short, regular sessions and check your progress to see whether you are ready; the coach gives advice based on your results.
